In October 2016 I shared with my instagram community what my "daily and weekly life" briefly look like in relation to my health journey. The two things that were the most shocking for most people at that time was that I spent nearly $2500 dollars daily in my fight for my health and that I took 225 supplements each day (you can read the entire post HERE).
As I healed these numbers changed dramatically and morphed in the natural process of healing. It is amazing the amount LESS of things I take everyday and how little I take compared to seven years ago.

I will say this again and again. Healing is possible.
I get asked a LOT about what vitamins and supplements that I took during the fight for my health. I wanted to share 10 of the most affordable and helpful supplements that I used to take (and some I still take) for my gut in hopes that it may help other Lymies who are fighting for their health and looking for the most affordable products.
I get asked a LOT about what vitamins and supplements that I took during the fight for my health. I wanted to share 10 of the most affordable and helpful supplements that I used to take (and some I still take) for my gut in hopes that it may help other Lymies who are fighting for their health and looking for the most affordable products.
As a quick background due to my specific issues with Lyme there are many times that a variety of different companies have the same product but I chose to use a quality rich supplement from a specific company due to manufacturing. I hope that these help! Here in no particular order are 10 of my tops supplements that I used to use or still use everyday:
Saccharomyces Boulardi + MOS (or "myce" as we have affectionately nicknamed it around our household) played a HUGE part in my daily regime and my healing. Under the care of my doctors orders I took very large quantities of this and it was a huge help for me - especially when I was in the midst of difficult and intense treatment rounds. I can't recommend it enough- especially for those of you who like me were/are on intensive and high med regimes.
According to studies Saccharomyces Boulardi + MOS is helpful for the entire digestive track, general intestinal health, helps in nutrient absorption, helps with diarrhea, helps the immune system, and helps to combat the bad bacteria while restoring the good. As with all of my supplements I did a ton of research on this and was amazed at how much this probiotic is known as the "king" of all probiotics for all of its health benefits. I also found that Jarrow Probiotics combination is thought to be the "best on the market" and "most potent" so that is why I use this particular brand.
You can find Saccharomyces Boulardi + MOS on Amazon by clicking HERE!

One of the things that I love about Thorne Research, Inc. is that they do not make any products that contain Genetically Modified Organisms. Unfortunately (and what a lot of people don't realize) is that many digestive enzymes are filled with GMO's and this can be detrimental in the body- especially in fighting Lyme Disease. It is so important to have a digestive enzyme as part of each meal and after trying nearly 50 different ones over the many years I have been extremely pleased with Biogest by Thorne Research. Biogest is a blend of HCI (hydrochloric acid), pepsin, pancreatin, and ox bile. This combination makes it helpful to promote the digestion of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats.
Ginger is one of my favorite supplements for my gut as it has so many different benefits. Scientific studies have shown that ginger helps to maintain healthy gut flora, helps to aid digestion, and can help calm and soothe the digestive track. In addition to this some studies show that ginger can help balance immune response and even help cardiovascular function. There are tons of amazing benefits of ginger and I wrote about 15 Amazing benefits of Ginger, which you can find HERE if you would like to learn more.
After researching through different brands I ended up choosing the Organic Ginger from Solaray. I was impressed with the manufacturing and the price (less than $12 a bottle!) is hard to beat. You can find it on Amazon by clicking HERE.
4. Slippery Elm
Slippery Elm is a very inexepensive product from NOW that I used to use that was hugely beneficial in my healing process. Slippery Elm has been used an herbal remedy since the 19th century and is known to help a number of digestive issues. One of the unique things about Slippery Elm is that it contains mucilage, which is a substance that becomes a slick gel when it is mixed with water, which in turn coats and soothes the mouth, throat, stomach, and intestines over time. Slippery Elm also comes in powder form (which I took in tiny quantities for many months while I was working up to the capsules) and has several amazing benefits.
Slippery Elm is known to help the digestive track and those that suffer with IBS, helps to aid in weight loss, and some scientific studies are showing that it can help Psoriasis and Breast Cancer. More research is being done but it is amazing to think about all that this can help with in our bodies.
Slippery Elm is another wonderful supplement that is cheap (less than $7) and can be found HERE!
5. George's Aloe Vera Supplement
I have shared many times how beneficial and important Aloe Vera has been in my healing journey. I rotate the different brands of Aloe that I use throughout the year (for additional health benefits), but George's Aloe Vera Supplement is one that I used and still use consistently. There are many reasons for this. First, the taste is the easiest to swallow and drink and it allow me to use the necessary dose that I need. Second, it is free of preservatives and additives which is really important to me. Finally, I can personally attest that it has helped my gut in the healing process.
Aloe Vera juice contains a wealth of nutrients and vitamins and minerals. In addition to this it helps to provide antioxidants, and helps support circulation in the body. Studies have shown that Aloe Vera juice helps to aid digestion and ease stomach aches. In addition it helps to increase the alkalization in the body. It helps to encourage a healthy stomach lining and some studies have also shown that it helps to boost the immune system.
If you read my post on detox baths than you know that for a time I used to put aloe vera in my detox bath regime. I don't currently do this but it does make the skin incredibly soft and also helps and aids in healing. (You can read more about detox baths HERE.)
George's Aloe Vera Supplement comes in different size quantities and can be found HERE!

6. DGL
DGL (or Licorice) is a key component for Lyme Disease patients for a number of different things, including a helpful supplement for the gut. The herb's key therapeutic compound, glycyrrhizin, helps to give the body lots of different beneficial effects for the body, including helping to heal the digestive system and helps to heal ulcers. In addition DGL helps to lower stomach acid levels, relieve indigestion and heartburn and can help with inflammation and spasms in the digestive tract. DGL has additional health benefits beyond the gut as it is beneficial for the liver, helps to lower cholesterol levels, helps lessen the pain and fatigue of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia, and can even help with PMS symptoms.
With all of these benefits, DGL was a top contender and supplement for me and yet it took a long time for me to find the right company. Unfortunately lots of licorice supplements have added ingredients, which may work for some people, but for a patient like me who is extremely fragile, I needed a supplement that had true ingredients. I continue to use this one to this day!
For all that DGL does, this is one of the more affordable supplements that I took and continue to take. I love when a supplement is helpful and healing for my gut, but also helps my body in other areas!

For less than $11 it truly has amazing benefits. You can find it on Amazon by clicking HERE.
7. Bromelain
Bromelain is another one of those amazing supplements that is awesome for the gut but also has tons of other medicinal properties. Bromelain is a mixture of enzymes that is found in pineapples that helps to digest protein. It has been used for centuries throughout the world to help treat indigestion and reduce inflammation. Interestingly enough the German Commission approved Bromelain to treat swelling and inflammation after surgery, particularly sinus surgery!
In addition to the amazing health benefits it has for the entire body, Bromelain has scientifically been shown to help heal issues in the gastrointestinal tract including IBD, Ulcertaive Colotis, Colon Cancer, Chron's Disease, Dyspepsia, and Constipation.
If you are like me and enjoy pineapple than you probably are getting some of the amazing benefits already. But if you struggle to eat it everyday, then you might benefit as I do from the supplement. There are lots of different companies that make Bromelain, but like many other supplements they have added ingredients. This version from NOW is one of the only ones that has only Bromelain in the ingredients.
The price fluctuates mildly on Amazon but consistently stays under $20 (it is currently $18). You can purchase it by clicking HERE.
8. Apple Cider Vinegar
I have written several times here on the blog about the benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar (and 17 ways to use Apple Cider Vinegar) so I won't bore you with repeating myself but I am definitely a huge believer in the power of this product. I can't recommend enough Bragg's Organic Apple Cider Vinegar and definitely encourage you to use that brand specifically.
On the flip side though after using it and drinking it daily (mixed in water of course!) for over a decade I struggle sometimes to deal with the taste. If that is something you struggle with also I have found that by taking short breaks with with the Apple Cider Vinegar Capsules by NOW to be helpful.
9. Ideal Bowel Support
Ideal Bowel Support from Jarrow Formulas is something that I added in and I have really appreciated it -especially when I am taking certain oral meds. In short, it is a probiotic that helps to reduce bloating, gas, and intestinal discomfort.
Ideal Bowel Support contains a clinically-documented strain, L. plantarum299v that resists stomach acid and bile salts. This mixture is a huge help for those struggling with intestinal discomfort. This is a supplement that I take that I see as an "aid" more than an overall healing help. If anyone has research that differs from this I would love to know it as I haven't been able to find any, but I do know it helps me in the day-to-day.
You can find Ideal Bowel Support on Amazon HERE.
10. Peppermint Oil
Many years ago when I was really struggling and completely bed ridden (you can read more of this portion of my story in the Notes from the Porch updates section HERE) I used peppermint oil like it was going out of style. As I have continued to heal I don't use it as frequently, but it is still apart of my life and I use it in my detox baths.
Peppermint Oil has been used for thousands of years- even dating back to Egyptian time- and has tons of healing properties. Peppermint Oil helps to reduce stomach aches, sooth the digestive system, and even has antimicrobial properties. In addition Peppermint Oil helps to relieve headaches, boost energy, and relieve tight muscles among other things.
I have tried several different manufacturers of peppermint oil and while I used Young Living's Peppermint Oil for a couple of years, this past year I discovered NOW's Organic Peppermint Oil and have been incredibly impressed. For those of you that can't afford to purchase Young Living Oils (like myself) I am so excited to share about this because it is an easy and affordable option and is certified organic. I would never criticize another helpful brand, but this for me has been incredibly helpful and I love it!
It costs about $12 on Amazon and you can find NOW's Organic Peppermint Oil on Amazon by clicking HERE.
Honorable Mention:
1. Boiron Homeopathic Medicine Magnesia Phosphorica
I started using this supplement in 2017 and after several months I was amazed at how much it helped my gut. For those that struggle with IBS, abdominal cramps, stomach cramps, etc. that is helped by placing a heating pad on the area this is a great little supplement to have.
For those who are extremely sensitive patients like myself, homeopathic options are a great way to go sometimes and this is a key example. For this I definitely recommend giving it several months before you expect to see a major difference. I noticed some result and help from it quickly but after several months I noticed huge results.
You can purchase Boiron Homeopathic Medicine Magnesia Phosphorica lots of places (including your local health store) but I found it for a couple of dollars cheaper on Amazon HERE. After trying it for 6 months and seeing the beneficial difference of continuously taking it daily I found it was cheapest to purchase a pack of 5 which can be found HERE.

To be frank, I definitely feel the Bragg's Organic Apple Cider Vinegar is the best option, but sometimes you have to do what you can do to get in what you need and so this product by NOW might be a helpful option.
Both are affordable and Bragg's Organic Apple Cider Vinegar can be purchased HERE!
Also- a side note- I continue to use the Bragg's Organic Apple Cider Vinegar in all of my detox baths that I take due to the help in getting rid of toxins. If you are interested in finding out more about what I have shared about detox baths you can do so HERE.

As Lyme Disease Awareness month comes to an end, the reality is that those fighting Lyme Disease will continue to face their illness far beyond one month. I wrote this post back in 2018 as I was finally seeing some light of healing at the end of a very very very dark tunnel and it is one of my most highly read posts. Today, for Thursday Health Thoughts I wanted to re-share it again. Please note again this was written in 2018 so many things have changed in the past five years for me personally but not for Lyme Patients. Cheering on those in the midst of the battle and their loved ones. You can do this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Life Truly Feels Like It Is "On Pause" In Every Aspect
I can't even begin to count the thousands of times that people forget that I have had to give up my career, my independence, my life to fight this disease. Absolutely everything has been put on hold and it is one of the most difficult things to deal with in this journey. This reality actually inspired me to write When Truth Refreshes (found HERE) because of the myriad of emotions that come from this aspect alone.
This time of year (and many times of the year) brings up a ton of different emotions as my social media feeds are filled with pictures of all of the graduations, wedding announcements, baby announcements, summer plans, etc. Like many Lymies it can often feel that our lives are on a constant pause button. In that though I have learned a deeper gratitude for the beauty in life... the beauty of now.
The beauty of savoring the moments that are right before me and living them fully.
The beauty of loving those that are right in my life.
The beauty of having deeper relationships than I ever knew because Lyme has a way of stripping off the "pretend" and getting to the heart of the matter.
The beauty of living vulnerably and freely with no expectations.
The beauty of believing the impossible for each day.
This is a gift that I never want to forget as I continue to heal.
2. Healing Doesn't Happen Overnight and It is NOT a straight line.
Before Lyme my experience with being sick is that when you have an infection you feel poorly, you take your vitamins, supplements, oils, etc. and if you choose the prescribed medication and withing a day, week, or sometimes a month, healing comes. Healing takes place quickly and many people start complaining if they have felt sick for more than two or three days.
Lyme has taught me that the complete opposite can be true. Healing doesn't happen overnight and it is a complex fight to deal with all of the issues that Lyme has caused as it can wreak havoc on so many different parts of the body. It's complex. It's tiring. It's exhausting. And it is an all out fight that you are in every single minute and hour of the day. And there is nothing simple about that. (You can read more about my thoughts on the long and winding road to healing by clicking HERE.)
And in this I have learned that all of life is like that... the journey is long and it lasts a lifetime. There is nothing quick or simple or straight lined about a person's life. I read this quote the other day and shared it with my IG community and it has stuck with me in profound and deep ways:
"Making someone feel loved in an instant is so much easier than showing someone your love over and over, day in and day out. It seems to me that one of the greatest hazards is quick love, which is actually charm. We get used to smiling, hugging, bantering, practicing good eye contact. And it’s easier than true, slow, awkward, painful connection with someone who sees all the worst parts of you. But quick charm is like sugar - it rots us. Only love feeds us. And love happens over years, repetitive motions, staying, staying, staying. Showing up again. Coming clean again, being seen again. That’s how love is built."
That... yes that... is the deep kind of love I long to take with me for the rest of my life.
3. 95% of People You Know Have No Idea What Lyme Disease Is Before You Got It.
Even though there have been more people talking about Lyme Disease in 2018 than even since my diagnosis in 2013, 95% of people that I know didn't know what it was before I started sharing my story. In response to this I wrote and shared a basic post entitled, "What is Lyme Disease?" a couple of years ago (and have updated it this year which you can find HERE) that remains one of my most read posts of all time.
With this though comes a complex situation that develops. I have been very vocal about this (to the dismay of many of my Lymie friends that I know *smiles*) and it stands true. Because of this lack of knowledge the healing journey is complex and isolating. On one hand I long to have all of the energy in the world to be the biggest advocate for Lyme Disease, but on the other hand... well...the hard truth of the matter is that I don't have that energy to do all of that advocating or the passion for it.
This is complex for Lyme patients- we want to shout it from the rooftop about the disease, and yet just keeping track of all of the pills, supplements, meds, and life that needs to take place each hour doesn't allow us to do that always.
Over the years I found what has worked for me... writing for me is my advocacy point. I have also done speaking on Lyme and sharing my story. Talking and listening to those in my circle is my advocacy ... for the Lymies. For others it is taking on congress and changing laws. I love that. I love that each of us have the opportunity to walk this complex road individually and uniquely. *smiles*
And in this... perhaps Lyme Disease has given me the greatest lesson... life is to short to say "yes" to everything. Choose what is important and what you are going to invest your time into because life is short.
4. Many Doctors Don't Believe that Chronic Lyme exists and are Not Aware of the Complexities that come with it.
Before I got sick I used to watch some medical shows off and on with friends and marvel at the way the doctors would treat patients with "rare and misunderstood diseases". Before I got sick I was convinced that doctors knew pretty much everything in their field. After my diagnosis I have not watched one medical show and learned that doctors sometimes don't know everything. Let me tell you - it is not fun to be the patient sitting in the office where the "experts" on health don't understand your disease, where you have to explain how a certain medication will cause a herx reaction, or tell them that "no, this is not all in my head".
A quote that I mentioned in the forward of my first book and that has brought me to tears sums this point up well: "In the fullness of time the mainstream handling of Chronic Lyme Disease will be viewed as one of the most shameful episodes in the history of medicine".
Amen. Amen. Amen.
I think that this has taught me a huge lesson in general in my life. Words are so powerful. We have the beautiful opportunity to recognize all of the hurtful and "death words" that have been spoken over us in this journey and choose to spread the opposite: to speak life-affirming words into each person that we encounter. I want to take this with me for the rest of my life.
5. Lyme Disease is the Loneliest Battle You Will Ever Fight.
"Recovery is not a team sport. It's a solitary distance run. It's long. It's exhausting. And it's lonely as hell."
Fighting Lyme Disease is the loneliest battle you will ever fight. Even with a great support team you have to face the monster day in and day out- doing something every hour or more to fight, and it is incredibly lonely. It is days upon days upon days of being in bed, being in your house (where moving to a different room can be a huge accomplishment) and days upon days upon weeks upon years of fighting a serious and determined killer. It's a solitary distance run... a marathon that you never wanted to run or trained for. It's incredibly long. It's physically and emotionally exhausting. And it's lonely as hell.
There is something deep and refining about facing loneliness though. There are lessons that I have learned in this season that could never have been replicated in a season full of people all around. These lessons have shown me the worst about me and I have grown up. Not just age wise, but in deep heart ways that only a season of loneliness can teach you. Dietrich Bonhoeffer said it well... there is a season for togetherness and a season for being alone. It's a challenging and lonely wilderness that most want to escape and run from. This journey teaches you to not run away from the hard but to face things with courage and without fear.
6. People Can Say the Most Insensitive Things
I can't even begin to start to list the thousands of insensitive things that I have been told throughout this journey ranging from: "It must be nice to not have to go to work" or "It must be nice not to have to ever leave summer you have it everyday of the year" or "I am tired and you don't see me complain about it" or "I wish I could just lay around and watch TV" (a thing to do that those who know me well know that I don't like to do) or "you just need to exercise more" or "if you just tried this... (insert oil, supplement, antibiotic, pill, etc.) you would be better" or "Why aren't you better yet?" or "You must just not have enough faith to be healed" or "What is the name of the disease you have again? Lame Disease?" And the list goes on and on and on and on...
I honestly had no idea how insensitive and hurtful people could be until I got sick. At a time when I thought people would surround, encourage, and rally around me, I have received so much skepticism, hurtful and rude assumptions and comments, and lack of support from those that I truly thought were close friends. I shared a little in my post, "after the diagnosis", but the truth is that this is a sad but realistic part of the journey.
But here is what I have also learned...
7. There are Unexpected Blessings of Illness
While it is true that I have had lots of friends walk away and been very unsupportive of my journey, I can also say without a doubt that I am incredibly blessed woman and my cup truly over runs with the way that God has blessed my life with amazing friends and family support.
Fighting a serious illness like Lyme leaves you incredibly vulnerable to the relationships that you have in your life because you have nothing to offer. You aren't well enough to do things that you might have done "normally" before (like attend special events or birthday parties). You aren't well enough to often remember the days of the week let alone remember important days in others lives (like birthdays, anniversary dates, etc.). You often don't have the strength for regular phone conversations (or meeting for coffee). And you often are trying to use every single spare energy you have to get better that "real life" disappears into a "fog" of "what was".
You learn in a heart breaking and startling way the reality that the many of the relationships that you have were built on what you have to offer another person instead of love. And the sad reality is that many, many, many people walk away when you have nothing to offer.
A sweet friend of mine who is fighting Ovarian Cancer recently asked me if I thought illness caused division and was the cause of people leaving. Over the years I have contemplated it , and the truth is that I don't think it is. Yes, illness is messy and hard and filled with tons of pain and yuckiness. BUT. I truly believe that illness just shines a spotlight on the issues, the reality, and the character of who we are and those that we are friends with. I truly believe that if it wasn't the situation of illness that caused the "fracture" in relationships, it would eventually be something else.
BUT in the midst of all of that, there are unexpected blessing of illness if you look for it. In the midst of the difficult, the messy, and painful, there emerges a group of people that become "your family" and "your tribe". These are the people that instead of walking away when times get tough they continue to love on you even though there is absolutely no benefit and no gain for themselves. They quietly and sacrificially love you, walk with you, and model what a healthy relationship looks like. They are the unexpected blessing of illness and I have realized that even more than before I am a very blessed woman. (You can read more about the unexpected blessings of illness in this post HERE.)
And here is what I have learned in deep ways as I have begun the healing journey. I love more openly and freely then before Lyme. The sentiment "wild and free" has a whole new meaning for me beyond a pinterest saying. I have learned that letting go of expectations of how someone will respond is the most beautiful thing in the world.
Love given freely will never come back without a person being changed. Keep pressing on, keep the faith, and live in the beautiful hope of loving someone freely.
8. The Financial Cost to Fight the Disease will Drain Every Resource that You Have.
I shared more in my post, What is Lyme Disease?, but this aspect is the most stressful thing about the entire journey. From it stems hundreds and hundreds of issues that are overwhelming.
Lyme Disease patients worry about things that most people don't think about. I will debate for hours and hours each week on which supplement or antibiotic I should do "without" due to money. We have concerns and stresses that are impossible to explain. We have sold everything we can think of, have had to humble ourselves to ask for money and are embarrassed to admit we have done so, and have asked every family member, friend, and stranger for help. In the process most of our relatives and friends have depleted their savings accounts and bank accounts to help us. Let me say what most Lyme Disease patients are thinking about all of the time but are ashamed to admit:
We don't care about the battles of politics and insurance. We don't care about "which treatment" is supposedly the best. We don't care about "this or that". What we do care about is fighting for our lives and our health and most of us are so scared that we can never get better because we do not have financial ability to do so.
And here is what I have learned...a simple and yet profound lesson: to watch for the miracle of provision each and every day.
(side note: If you are a Lyme patient and looking for financial tips and resources I wrote a blog post about this topic that you can find by clicking HERE.)

9. Fighting Lyme Disease Will Change You.
Even when you heal you will have changed too radically - physically or emotionally to ever go back to what you knew or were before this fight... and that is the deepest lesson I have learned.
I truly believe that Lyme Disease has changed me in the best possible way and it can if you let it. We have the opportunity to become more compassionate, loving, brave, courageous, free, and more giving people then we were before. We have the opportunity to become a better version of who we were before we entered this fight. Physically, emotionally and spiritually I look back as I enter my 6th year of living at home and see that I am a different person... I have fought for who I am and I realize that I am loving this person I am becoming.
Lyme Disease has not defined me... but it has been the greatest teacher and for that I am forever thankful for all of the lessons above.
Today I am so excited to share 10 of the most affordable and helpful supplements that I used to take (and some I still take) for helping to heal my adrenal glands in hopes that it may help other Lymies who are fighting for their health and looking for the most affordable products. I first shared this post in 2020 and have since updated it as I continue to learn more and more!
As most Lymies know, dealing with fatigue is a serious symptom that most of us deal with on a daily basis. The adrenal glands play a huge part in the healing journey of any patient and the stress that happens to their body. There is a debate in Lyme world about which came first (the Lyme destabilizing the adrenal glands or the adrenal glands being under stress and weakened so that the immune system could not fight Lyme Disease - (source)), but either way this is a part of the journey. It is also a significant thing to consider, especially for those who are not seeing healing results in ways that they had hoped or wanted.
“Dr. Gerald Poesnecker, a naturopathic physician who specialized in adrenal fatigue and who treated patients with this condition for many, many years, believed that if a person’s adrenal fatigue were severe enough, then the body wouldn’t mount an immune response to any treatments that were given it...he writes, ‘the bodies of patients with a low adrenal adaptive ability have lost much of their ability to create the needed reaction to produce a cure. On the contrary, when the body is not able to use the energy of these therapies constructively, they actually tend to produce a worsening of the underlying condition because, to the body, they become a stress and not a cure…” (source)
With this concept and many other doctors mentioning how important it is to heal the adrenals alongside healing Lyme comes a tricky concept that many people have tried to master throughout there journeys. It is a tricky endeavor, mostly because like everything with Lyme each patient is different.
As a quick background, my adrenal glands tested into the adrenal failure range at one point in this journey (a common issue for many Lyme patients) and needed medical intervention. At the same time my medical team helped me to nutritionally (through my diet) and supplementally (through a variety of supplements listed below and others that are not listed) support and start the SLOW and LONG process of healing them. As I mentioned above many of these products I continue to use as I continue to repair this area of my body from the fight from Lyme. It is a long road to repair the adrenals and it is something that needs to be considered as such. Don't be discouraged if you don't see results right away. They will come!
Due to my specific issues with Lyme there are many times that a variety of different companies have the same product but I have to use a quality rich supplement from a specific company due to manufacturing. I hope that these help! Here in no particular order are 10 of my tops supplements that I used to use or still use everyday:
1. HAD Adrenal Drops
"HAD Adrenal Drops is a unique homeopathic organotherapy preparation synergistically formulated to restore and support normal adrenal and endocrine functions. Insufficient adrenal function can result in deficient muscular metabolism, lowered resistance to infections, and reproductive and endocrine dysfunctions. HAD Adrenal Drops is indicated for symptoms associated with adrenal disorders, including stress, fatigue, insomnia and adrenal atrophy; and for allergies, hypoglycemia, chronic infections, inflammation and mineralization disorders."
I listed this one first because this is a product that I have used and continue to use and have felt the most difference with. For those who are extremely sensitive to new products (like I was for a very long time) my doctor started me putting a drop on my skin every day and we worked up to the recommended drops before starting this internally.
Many doctors offices carry this product or you can find it on the Internet. It sometimes is available on Amazon but currently it is out of stock so I have found it the cheapest at on Pure Formulas website for $20.30 HERE.
Vitamin B5, or commonly known as Pantothenic Acid is a an important part of healing your adrenal glands as it helps to produce co-enzyme A. Co-enzyme A contributes to cellular respiration and also helps in the breakdown of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates.
Over the years I have tried a variety of different Pantothenic Acid brands but consistently return to NOW's formula for the quality and also the price. You can find it for less than $13 on Amazon by clicking HERE.
Vitamin B6, is a an important part of restoring your adrenal glands as helps the functions of several pathways that are used to create adrenal hormones.
Over the years I have tried a variety of different Vitamin B6 brands but consistently return to NOW's formula for the quality and also the price. You can find it for less than $7 (for a months supply!!) on Amazon by clicking HERE.
Vitamin D plays an important part in healing your adrenal glands. This is a more "newer" concept but there are so many studies that are being done that show the link between low vitamin d levels and fatigue and adrenal issues. This Biotech product, of D3-50 is one of my favorite formulas that I have found to be very beneficial. You can find it on Amazon HERE.
Lots of times we think of Vitamin C as being a powerful and important antioxidant but it also helps the adrenal glands! Vitamin C is directly involved in the production of cortisol in your adrenal glands and is an essential building block in restoring and healing your adrenal glands.
I have tried a variety of Vitamin C products over the years, but this is the one from Solaray that has best fit my needs. You can find it for less than $15 on Amazon by clicking HERE.
A word of encouragement for those who struggle with taking Vitamin C orally as I know some Lyme patients do. Consult a qualified physician for this. Despite doing high-dose Vitamin C therapy as part of my healing process from Lyme and continue to receive Vitamin C in my weekly Myers Cocktail IVs, I for a LONG LONG time couldn't take vitamin c orally. It was just one of those weird and strange things with Lyme and the way that Mast Cell had affected my body. I heard this from tons of Lymies - so if you think you are alone- you are not. It took me a while, but with the help of my medical team, I have started (under a doctors care!) to add this back in orally and this is the product that I have found the most helpful. It is a non-acidic formula which is helpful as my gut continues to heal. As I mentioned above, you can find it for less than $15 on Amazon by clicking HERE.
6. Magnesium
Similar to #5, with Vitamin C, magnesium is not a supplement that we often consider important in the role of adrenal glands, but it is! Studies have shown that more than 75% of people are deficient in magnesium which is a HUGE issue for those struggling with adrenal fatigue and failure. Sadly, a lack of appropriate magnesium levels can result in fatigue symptoms. There are all different types of magnesium forms so you will want to consult with a doctor and research what is best for your specific case. Listed below are a few of the magnesium products that I have found to be the most helpful:
Boiron Homeopathic Medicine Magnesia Phosphorica
I started using this supplement this past summer and after several months I was amazed at how much it has helped my gut.

This is one of my favorite products, although as a disclaimer, it is also one of the more expensive supplements that I use. But it is fantastic and I find it the cheapest on Amazon. You can find it HERE.
Magnesium Oil (Magnesium Chloride)
This magnesium oil is probably been one of my most favorite products in my journey with regaining my health. I have used it for pain, but also daily use it for the benefits of adrenal rebuilding. My favorite brand is definitely this Swanson brand - it is wonderful and a bottle will last me for almost 6 months! You can find it on amazon HERE.
Magnesium Malate is a product that was recommended to me by my acupuncturist about two years ago. Unfortunately with the introduction of new treatment rounds, meds, supplements, etc. I haven't been able to try it but it is next up in the rounds for this summer. I am really excited about this product as I have been reading a ton and discussing with medical professionals the benefits of the malate form of magnesium specifically. Interestingly, "Dr.Jay Goldstein, U.S. director of the CFS Institute, has endorsed the use of malic acid as a "valid therapeutic approach" for patients with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome".
One of the things that I have read is that it takes at least two months to notice any difference with this magnesium so I am excited to share my findings at the end of the summer! The integrative therapeutics brand is the one that a few family members and friends have used and was recommended to me and is what I have purchased to use. You can find it HERE on Amazon.
7. Licorice
Licorice is a key component for Lyme Disease patients for a number of different things, including a helpful supplement for the gut, but Licorice also has additional health benefits beyond the gut as it is beneficial for the liver, helps to lower cholesterol levels, helps lessen the pain and fatigue of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia, and can even help with PMS symptoms. One significant thing that licorice does is that it helps your cortisol circulate for longer!
With all of these benefits, Licorice was a top contender and supplement for me and yet it took a long time for me to find the right company. Unfortunately lots of licorice supplements have added ingredients, which may work for some people, but for a patient like me who is extremely fragile, I needed a supplement that was purely Licorice. After researching I found the Nature's Plus version and it has been a perfect fit for me.
For all that Licorice does, this is one of the more affordable supplements that I used to take. At this current moment I am not taking it anymore but plan to add it back in to the regime in the future. I love when a supplement is helpful and healing for my gut, but also helps my body in other areas! On Amazon it retails for under $11. You can find it on Amazon by clicking HERE.

CoQ10 is important to the overall function of our body as it is used to produce energy for growing and maintaining our cells. Studies have shows that it can also help to increase endurance. My favorite brand of CoQ10 is the one by Researched Nutritionals above. Unfortunately you will have to have a doctors code to order this and give you a code but I would definitely recommend exploring this as this supplement is phenomenal. Beyond helping with energy, I attribute the fact that I don't suffer as much from pain as other people do from Fibro or Lyme issues to this supplement alone. It took a while to see a difference but it is a "must have" for me. You can find it HERE.
If you can't get a doctors code or help with Researched Nutritionals, than this CoQ10 on Amazon is what I would recommend as the back up plan.
This supplement is used for a variety of different things but it does help to move the fatty acids into the mitochondria where we need them to help produce energy. It is also helpful for boosting metabolism and increasing energy levels.
You can find it on Amazon by clicking HERE.
10. Omega 3's
Many people are deficient in omega-3 fatty acids and this can lead to increased inflammation, which requires an increase in cortisol production to manage. (It definitely is a circle that is completely connected!) Taking a quality omega 3 supplement can help to reduce the inflammation that is throughout your body and in turn help to relieve the taxation on your adrenals.
There are so many different brands and kinds of Omega 3 products, but my favorite and the one that I use is the ultimate omega by Nordic Naturals. I would definitely consult with a physician about what kind would be the most helpful for your particular case, and Nordic Naturals offers a variety of different products. You can find the product above (and other Nordic Naturals products) on Amazon by clicking HERE.
Some Additional Helpful Information:
This book, Adrenal Fatigue, by James Wilson, is one of the best resources that I would definitely recommend. Even if you are not dealing with Lyme it is a fantastic resource and one that I have in my library and have referred back to many times. You can find it on Amazon HERE.
There have been studies done over the years that show the importance and the benefits to the adrenal glands with using Himalayan salt. The above brand is the one that I have been using for years. You can find it on Amazon by clicking HERE.
I hope that this product list is helpful for those of you struggling with Lyme Disease or those who are interested in healing your adrenal glands! Let me know if you have any questions!
